Noise Machines & Gadgets
The bleepin\u{2019} audio inputs settings screen lets you do stuff when your built-in microphone, line-in headphone jack, or whatever janky audio hardware you plugged in decides to make a noise.
Using audio to control OnSong? ZOMG, y\u{2019}all, the uses are chef\u{2019}s kiss including:
- Slappin\u{2019} a Tap For Tempo action on there so you can clap like a seal or tap your device like it owes you money to set the song\u{2019}s tempo.
- Goin\u{2019} full disco with stage lightin\u{2019} by usin\u{2019} the Scenes add-on to make a whole light show sequence, then hittin\u{2019} that Continue Scene action like you\u{2019}re a actual DJ.
- Plug in multiple inputs to drum triggers or whatever so you can control OnSong from your drum pad like you\u{2019}re not just playin\u{2019} air drums at home.
Inputs
OnSong\u{2019}s got room for up to two channels of input. Realistically tho, only Input 1 works with your built-in microphone or line-in jack (sorry, Input 2, nobody likes you). To set each one up, mess with these bad boys:
- Action is where you pick what OnSong should actually do when your audio input throws a fit & goes louder than the average noise. Thrilling stuff.
- Threshold lets you dial in how much sound gotta happen before we trigger your action. It\u{2019}s set to 75% by default, which means your audio\u{2019}s gotta be 75% louder than normal to make anything happen. Note: if you wanna get fancy & map sound values around, use lower thresholds, you overachiever.
- Inverse Levels flips the script—if your sound\u{2019}s at 67%, we\u{2019}ll send 33% instead. It\u{2019}s backwards day, every day.
Responsiveness
The audio listenin\u{2019} engine checks your audio input like a helicopter parent. By default, it\u{2019}s super twitchy & responds to every blip like it\u{2019}s an emergency. Great for tempo stuff. But that constant checkin\u{2019} murders performance on ancient devices. Plus you might accidentally trigger stuff when you bonk your drum pad. Slide that responsiveness slider around to find your sweet spot between lightning-fast reactions & not meltin\u{2019} your phone.
