Stuff You Hoarded

So here's the tea: iOS 11+ gave us this thing called the Files app, which is basically a sad little filing cabinet where you can wrangle all your docs & data from Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, & whatever other cloud circus you're subscribed to. Apple used to call it "storage providers" back when dinosaurs roamed the earth & everyone had flip phones. Plot twist: OnSong can now talk to all your cloud junk, even the stuff we don't officially support. You're welcome.

Get Those Apps, y'all

Look, to import or export to these fancy cloud services, you gotta install the actual apps first so they show up in the Files app like obedient little minions. There's no mega-list of what works & what doesn't (because Apple loves mystery boxes), but here's the usual suspects:

Bringin' Stuff In

Wanna import? Easy peasy. Tap The Songs Thing » All Your Jams & smash that + button to Throw More Songs At OnSong. Tap Files & boom—cloud provider window opens (iCloud Drive shows up like the overachiever it is). Don't like that? Tap the lil' icon top-left to switch providers. Tap More to unlock all those apps you've been hoarding.

Sendin' Stuff Out

Export? Tap the Gimme Options Menu from the menu bar, then hit Export. Tap the folder icon bottom-right & pick Files. Choose your file formats (thrilling, we know), tap Export top-right, & OnSong opens the cloud provider window again. Pick a folder. Done. Pat yourself on the back.

The Catch (Because There's Always a Catch)

Buckle up, chief. Storage providers are kinda janky.

  1. Once that Files window opens, YOU'RE at the mercy of whatever app's interface is showing. So every import/export dance is slightly different. Fun times, right?
  2. Depending on which iOS version you're rockin', the Files interface might be too lazy to handle multiple files at once. So you can only grab one file at a time on import. Export? That gets zipped up like a holiday present. Maybe these apps will get smarter someday. Fingers crossed.
  3. You can only use apps that support the storage provider extension & that you've actually installed. Shocking, we know.
